Summer Goals

Summer has commenced and I am into the third and last week before summers classes do so as well. It’s a real problem that I can be unproductive and procrastinate so I have created for myself a list of daily requirements.

try to wake up early (6-9 am - I am aware that is a large gap)
Exercise - at least 30 min.
Read - at least 30 min.
Be creative - work on/ create art.
Music/poetry - practice writing and creating.

The goal is to try and keep this up and create it into a regular routine (in school or not).

간담상조 (肝膽相照)

거두절미 (去頭截尾)

쓸데없는 군더더기는 빼고 핵심만 취한다는 뜻이다. 어떤 말을 하거나 일을 할 때 정작 중요한 요소는 빼 놓고, 이것저것 군더더기만 늘어 놓다 보면 진짜 하고 싶었던 말이나 일은 놓쳐 버리는 수가 있다. 또 대화나 논의를 할 때 부연설명만 길게 늘어 놓으면 듣는 사람들이 곧 싫증을 내고 만다.

따라서 말을 할 때 핵심이 되는 요소만 골라 짧고 정확하게 뜻을 전할 수 있다면, 그만큼 효과적인 말도 없을 것이다. 거두절미는 쓸데없는 것은 다 버리고 핵심만 말하겠다는 뜻으로 쓰는 말이다.

거두절미는 조금도 축내거나 버릴 것이 없는 요점만 취한다는 말이다. 같은 뜻을 가진 말로 단도직입(單刀直入)이 있다. 혼자서 칼을 휘두르며 곧장 적진으로 쳐들어 간다는 뜻으로, 글을 쓰거나 말을 할 때 군말이나 허두를 빼고 요점으로 들어간다는 말이다. 이와 반대로 쓸데없는 말만 하면서 입술과 혀만 수고스럽게 하는 것을 도비순설(徒費脣舌)이라고 한다.
